Project Location

Pickleball facility, Australia

Application:

Commercial

Key Otcome:

  • Created a visually striking backdrop that elevates the entire court
  • Increased facility attractiveness and usage
  • Introduced year-round greenery without any maintenance needs.

Before & After Transformation

One of their main spaces, the pickleball court, had been underutilized thus far due to the simplicity of the surroundings and the lack of appeal of the interior design.

The existing perimeter consisted of simple, plain walls with wood paneling, offering minimal visual appeal and acoustic buffering.

After some Googling, they came across our artificial green wall collection and determined that this was the outcome they had been after.

The client then contacted our team for a free consultation, and the rest is history.

Once the installation was complete, the transformation was immediately noticeable.

From the client’s perspective, the court became a standout feature within the facility.

The improved atmosphere contributed to increased usage and longer visits, while the distinctive look provided valuable visual content for marketing and promotions. Most importantly, though, the solution delivered all of this without adding ongoing maintenance demands, which aligned perfectly with the client’s operational priorities.

The Client Challenge

With some research and conversations with the staff, the client determined that they needed a low-maintenance solution that would contribute to a welcoming and attractive space. But they wanted to ensure the installation of such an element wouldn’t block operations for too long.

The Design Objective

The main challenge was transforming an indoor sports court without compromising its functionality.

The current visual environment lacked warmth and character and made the space feel sterile and uninspiring. And when you’re playing pickleball, you shouldn’t be underwhelmed by your surroundings to such an extent.

Traditional solutions, such as repainting or installing standard acoustic panels, felt too industrial and failed to align with the client’s vision of a modern, inviting interior.

The Solution

Our team decided on the placements together with the client during their free consultation. Since this project required a lot of customization to fit the frames the client wanted to use.

We started by installing the panels along the perimeter walls of the court. The dense, evergreen foliage introduced a natural element and made it look like plants were growing straight out of the walls. This softened the hard architectural lines and brought warmth to a sterile space.

Beyond aesthetics, the panels played a key role in improving acoustics. By absorbing and diffusing sound, the panels reduce echo and background noise, which makes the court more comfortable for players.

Installation Approach

The project started with a detailed assessment of the indoor space, including measurements of wall surfaces, ceiling height, lighting, and traffic flow around the court.

Our process included:

  1. Design planning: We proposed the Evergreen Triptych set as a modular green wall solution. Its versatility allowed us to cover large wall sections and create visual panels that don’t repeat patterns and look as realistic as possible.
  2. Customization: Panels were selected for dense, evergreen foliage that maintains a vibrant look indoors all year. Our team had to cut and trim the panels to adhere to the rounded frames on the walls, which gave the display a unique look.
  3. Integration with lighting: We coordinated with the facility’s lighting to ensure the green walls were illuminated naturally and evenly, enhancing the ambiance without creating shadows or glare on the court.
  4. Stakeholder feedback: Our team and the client consulted the regular players and the staff on panel placement and visual design, as these are the people who would look at them most often.
  5. Installation preparation: We prepped the walls according to our installation guide so that they could securely hold the modular panels, ensuring they would remain safe, stable, and accessible for periodic cleaning.

The Result

The pickleball court felt more enclosed, focused, and intentional, creating an environment that encouraged concentration and enjoyment. Players responded positively to the reduced noise levels and the upgraded visual experience, which meant the client succeeded at making the space calmer and more professional.

Why Artificial Greenery Worked So Well

Real plants were ruled out early in the process due to lighting limitations, maintenance requirements, and long-term durability concerns. The client needed a solution that would improve aesthetics and remain consistent year-round, all while being easy to maintain in a high-traffic indoor environment.

Practical Tips

  1. Panels can be cut and trimmed to adhere to rounded frames on walls, giving the display a unique look.
  2. Coordinate with the facility's lighting to ensure green walls are illuminated naturally and evenly, enhancing ambiance without creating shadows or glare.
  3. Consult regular users and staff on panel placement and visual design — these are the people who will look at them most often.
