Crew installing artificial green wall panels on rooftop

In a Nutshell

Before Our Collaboration

Modern rooftop courtyard artificial green wall with synthetic turf low maintenance

After showcasing the beauty and benefits of artificial green walls and plants for areas with unpredictable, extreme weather, a client in New York reached out to our team for help and advice.

This client was thinking about decorating their rooftop, which had great potential from the get-go, but it was dominated by large air conditioning and water units. As a result, the space quickly became more utilitarian than anything else.

According to the client, the space was supposed to be an escape and a place to enjoy the fresh air and city views. Instead, the mechanical equipment made it feel industrial and uninviting.

The Problem

Beyond just looking unattractive, the exposed utilities made it virtually impossible for the rooftop to be used as anything other than storage, let alone an entertaining space.

When the client briefed our team, they highlighted their need to conceal the units without creating extra maintenance for them or others. They’d first thought of using real plants and greenery, but soon realized this wasn’t an option.

Not only would real greenery require irrigation and ongoing care, but it also wouldn’t survive the city’s freezing winters or heavy snowfalls. And when it dies, it’s still the client’s responsibility to clean everything up.

The challenge was clear: they needed a solution that was modern, durable, and would look lush all year long.

After some searching, they landed on our comprehensive collection and reached out to our expert team for a free consultation.

During the Process

Our team talked the client through the process and recommended they use our most unique artificial green wall, the Evergreen Triptych set of three panels. The client liked the idea and, in the following days, we arranged for a professional installation crew to affix the panels on the rooftop.

Our installers spent two days onsite, carefully building the green wall around the rooftop utilities. While the installation generally went smoothly, the team was temporarily interrupted by heavy snowfall.

Of course, the snow wasn’t enough to stop them.

The Solution

The builders affixed the panels using a combination of pipe ties and screws to ensure the vertical garden would stay in place through winds and storms, especially in the winter. The modular design allowed us to run the panels seamlessly around the utilities and fully conceal them from view.

We paid extra attention to creating a flowing green wall that looked natural from every angle.

Here’s what our team delivered:

  • Strategically built a freestanding evergreen wall to block the machinery without compromising access to the units.
  • Secured the structure against harsh weather using durable fixings to withstand winter winds and snow load.
  • Created an entertaining backdrop that feels lush and modern, shifting the rooftop appearance from industrial to inviting.

By choosing the Evergreen Triptych, we also gave the client a long-term, season-proof solution. The panels won’t fade in the summer sun, won’t crack or wither in frost, and will require zero upkeep beyond the occasional dusting.

The transformation was immediate.

Instead of being greeted by air-conditioning units, residents and guests now see a vibrant, natural-looking green wall that brings life to the rooftop year-round.

Even in the dead of winter, the faux greenery will stay rich and full, without wilting, browning, or loss of color.

What was once wasted space is now a place for people to gather, relax, and enjoy the city skyline.

The client was thrilled with the results and mentioned the outcome exceeded expectations.

Next Steps

This project proves that artificial greenery can do more than beautify a space; it can transform unusable areas into destinations, even under extreme weather conditions.

With the success of this installation, the client is already considering expanding greenery into other areas of the property. Thanks to the adaptability of the Evergreen Triptych system, the same panels can be reused or extended in future projects.
