How We Transformed a Laguna Beach Spa Courtyard With Jasmine Green Wall Panels

This Laguna Beach property had all the makings of a relaxing, resort-like space. Yet, it was missing a feature that would cause you to pay attention right after entering. So the client decided it was time to do something about it.

Project Location

Laguna Beach, California

Application:

Residential, luxury outdoor spa and entertaining courtyard

Key Outcome:

  • Covered the full boundary wall behind a luxury spa platform
  • Turned plain rendered masonry into a resort-quality backdrop
  • Delivered immediate full-height privacy and enclosure

Before & After Transformation

The boundary wall behind this Laguna Beach spa platform was plain rendered masonry, and, although visually appealing, it was the weakest element of an otherwise premium outdoor build. Marble bar edge, timber-look porcelain tile, synthetic lawn, luxury hot tub, outdoor shower. Everything had been considered, except for the wall behind it.

After the installation, we got a dense, full-height artificial Jasmine green wall running the full width of the courtyard boundary. The spa zone now has a backdrop that belongs in the same conversation as the rest of the build.

The Client Challenge

The client had completed a luxury outdoor build and needed an artificial greenery solution that matched its quality.

  • The boundary wall sat in the sightline, so it couldn't stay blank
  • The coastal environment ruled out any surface-treated UV product
  • No irrigation or soil access at the wall, so live planting wasn't viable
  • The greenery needed to hold up to close inspection at seated height

The Design Objective

Our team needed to turn a plain masonry boundary into a feature that matched the quality of everything around it without adding anything for the client to manage. This included:

  • Covering the full wall run with dense, continuous foliage
  • Matching the material palette so the Jasmine’s bright green sits well against pale porcelain, marble, and white render
  • Installing the green wall so that it requires nothing after installation day

The Solution

Our client specified the Jasmine Artificial Green Wall Panel because they wanted a softer, more naturalistic surface than structured boxwood, appropriate for a relaxation-focused outdoor space. UVTex UV inhibitors are integrated within the leaf during manufacturing, which is a non-negotiable for a coastal California environment.

We attached panels directly to the rendered masonry using galvanized screws and UV-rated cable ties, locking panels together via the integrated clip-and-lug system. We trimmed the top edge and corners along the backing grid, then adjusted foliage by hand across every join.

Installation Approach

We installed this backdrop in a single day. Getting it right came down to three things: the right product for the environment, a clean top edge, and foliage adjusted across every join.

  • Direct-to-masonry attachment using galvanized screws and UV-rated cable ties. No frame or mesh is required on solid rendered substrate.
  • Panels locked together via the integrated clip-and-lug system along all four edges to ensure there are no visible seams.
  • Top edge trimmed along the backing grid and foliage adjusted by hand
  • UV-rated fixings throughout

The Result

We delivered a courtyard that works as a complete space. The wall that was the weakest element of the build became its most atmospheric feature. The client gets privacy, botanical depth, and a resort-quality backdrop, and adds nothing to their maintenance schedule to keep it.

Why Artificial Greenery Worked Here

  • No irrigation or soil access at the wall, so live planting was never an option
  • A coastal California environment needs UV built into the material
  • The build was already completed, so the client needed immediate impact without a 1-year growing window
  • The client entertains regularly, so the backdrop needs to look perfect every time without preparation

Practical Tips and Best Places for This Type of Installation

Works best for:

- Luxury spa and hot tub installations where the boundary wall is the backdrop

- Pool surrounds in coastal environments where UV performance is non-negotiable

- Completed outdoor builds where live planting isn't viable at the wall

Tips from this project:

- Specify UVTex-certified panels with UV inhibitors within the leaf

- Trim the top edge and adjust foliage by hand before you call the job done

- Use UV-rated cable ties and galvanized fixings because standard hardware degrades in salt air

FAQs

1. Can I install panels directly on rendered masonry without a frame?

- Yes, you can use galvanized screws and wall plugs through the panel grid, UV-rated cable ties at the joins, and a clip-and-lug system between panels. See our full installation guide for every surface type.

2. How do the panels hold up in direct sun?

- UVTex UV inhibitors are integrated within the LDPE leaf material during manufacturing. Surface treatments degrade in coastal UV and salt air within 12–24 months. Because ours is part of the material itself, the 5-year UV warranty is backed by how the product is made, not just what we say about it.

3. How do we calculate how many panels we need?

- Each panel is 40×40 in and covers 11 sq ft. Measure your wall in square feet, divide by 11, and add 10% for trimming. For a precise count, use our panel calculator.
