How to Revive a Patio With an Artificial Green Wall Transformation

When a client reached out to our design team, they were looking at an empty wall facing their patio. The space had so much potential, but the client thought it lacked character and didn’t represent their household’s decor well.

A blank, monotonous wall may work for some spaces, but it’s not often the desired aesthetic for an outdoor patio, especially if you frequently host gatherings.

A client turned to Google to search for inspiration, and even went on inspo sprees on social media. During their search, they came across Designer Plants and were drawn by our promise of ultra-realistic artificial green walls built with high-quality materials and proprietary technologies.

Intrigued by our collection, they contacted our team and shared their vision. They told us about their outdoor conditions and their aspirations for the space.

In the end, it looked like the wall was growing plants from all sides around the sliding doors.

The exterior wall gives new depth, texture, and color variation, and its presence provides a focal point for the entire outdoor zone.

The Client Challenge

After some debating, the client and their family had agreed on one thing: they wanted something green, something lovely, that doesn’t need round-the-clock care or maintenance.

An artificial green wall seemed like the perfect solution for their problem. But will they manage to fix the sterility of the space this way?

The empty patio wall posed 2 key challenges:

Aesthetic dullness, with the wall lacking richness and failing to reflect the personality of the space and the homeowners, and
Maintenance and feasibility, with the client wanting the look of nature without the usual care associated with it.

The Design Objective

The brief: deliver a “green wall” that’s realistic, high-end, and worry-free.

Once we confirmed the collaboration, our creative team kicked in.

After speaking with the team and looking over our comprehensive collection, we proposed using a UV-resistant artificial green wall that’s toxin-free and comes with a warranty.

The Solution

We guided the client through the selection process and helped them understand the different foliage types and identify which ones would work best in the space. We talked about textures, densities, and outdoor vs indoor suitability, and ultimately decided on using the Luxury Green Tropics artificial vertical garden.

The client chose this panel because of its rich and layered foliage in multiple green tones that could bring them closer to the tropical retreat they dream of.

Installation Approach

Once the client had all the resources at hand, installation planning followed.

Depending on the client’s needs and the extent of the project, you have the choice between a professional installation with a crew and a DIY installation you can undertake whenever you feel like it (with our guidance, of course).

Luckily, since our panels are made to be DIY-friendly and easy to install, even for newbies, this client opted to take this route.

Following our detailed installation guide and making use of the tools we sent over with the panels, they used a mesh/wire substrate fixed to the existing wall to minimize the number of screws needed and the potential damage.

The Result

The transformation speaks for itself: the patio now boasts a new backdrop that enlivens the character of the space and will undoubtedly prompt some visitors to ask whether it’s real.

Because the materials are engineered to resist the sun, moisture, and wear (thanks to UV-Tex embedded into the raw plastics), the client will enjoy the aesthetics without the usual maintenance headaches a real green wall would cause.

Why Artificial Greenery Worked So Well

For the client, it now functions as a feature and a statement, not just a temporary and replaceable decoration.

Practical Tips

Once they had the mesh up, they used zip-ties to attach the panels to the wire securely. This step was double-checked to ensure the panels wouldn’t move or fall over when exposed to strong winds. Although the material itself is high-quality and weather-proof, you need to make sure it’s installed well enough to hold.

During installation, the client trimmed some panels to follow the lines of the roof, aligned the edges of the panels to hide the seams, and took advantage of the lightweight, flexible nature of the products to fully cover the wall.
