putting fiber into the pot with the faux plant

No room is complete without a statement piece, and if you’ve delved into interior design, you’ll know this is an unskippable tenet.

And as a crucial part of your space, you need to think long and hard about which decor element deserves the title of statement piece. Namely, just because a piece of furniture is bulky or attention-grabbing, it doesn’t mean it’s fit to be a statement piece.

But one thing’s for certain - artificial greenery is fit to be a statement piece almost anywhere.

Thanks to our decades-long experience decorating client spaces with artificial plants, we’ve figured out a few tried-and-true ways to make any faux greenery a focal point.

It’s not hard, but it does require some strategic thinking, which we’ll help you do right here.

If you want to take your space from ‘meh’ to ‘WOW,’ keep reading for our expert tips.

How to Make an Artificial Plant a Statement Piece

Let’s start with an easy one - making a large artificial plant a statement.

Follow these instructions if you have any type of potted artificial plant, like our Artificial Square Topiary Plant or our Premium Artificial Olive Tree, which you’d like to elevate.

Here’s what you should do:

Put a metal stand inside a large pot

Start by choosing a big, imposing pot. We recommend opting for something sturdy that can handle a little weight and layering. Then, find a metal stand to go inside.

If you don’t have one in your home, use any household item that gives you a bit of height (like a wooden box) or grab a purpose-made plant stand online. Then, pop it inside the pot.

Place the plant on top

planting the artificial plant inside the pot

Now, pick the artificial plant you want to show off. We suggest using plants with trunks, like artificial trees or tall topiary plants that already command attention.

Place the faux plant on top of the stand inside the pot. Step back and notice how easily you’ve elevated the plant (literally). This little trick instantly improves the scale and helps the plant stand out more in your space.

Add fiber to the pot

To finish the look, add some fiber around the base of the faux plant to give it a cleaner, more modern appearance. Make sure to wrap it nicely and cover any awkward gaps so it feels natural and polished.

If you don’t like the look of fiber, pot it with something else - dirt, wood shavings, or any other filler that fits your style.

How to Make Artificial Stems a Statement Piece

If you have a particularly small space, you may need to look for ways to create a statement piece without using any floor space. To do this, turn your attention to your walls and brainstorm ways to reinvigorate them.

One way to do this is by using one of our floating half moon planters and a mix of your favorite artificial stems.

Here’s how that would go:

Get a half moon wall planter

Start your statement piece with our half moon wall planters as your base. These planters are made from powder-coated steel, so they’re tough enough to withstand outdoor conditions but pretty enough to decorate indoor walls too.

They come in 2 sizes - 14 or 17.5 inches - and feature a simple and secure mounting system with space for 2 screws on each side. So, you can simply use the 2 holes to hook them to the nails on your wall with no fuss.

Choose your artificial stems

Now comes the fun part - choosing your artificial stems. To illustrate, let’s say we want to use our White Bougainvillea Artificial Flowers and add a few Pink Bougainvilleas for a pop of color.

When your stems arrive, don’t panic if they look squished. We pack them tightly on purpose to protect them during shipping, especially since we rely on third-party couriers to deliver them. There’s an easy fix for this, which you’ll read about below.

Arrange and fluff your stems

Once you’ve got your stems, start by fanning them out to give them a fuller, more lush look. Then, slide them into the planter and let a few pieces peek through the front of the bars like they’re growing.

Add in your pops of color in between and tuck in some faux grass at the front to level it up. Bend the fauxliege a little so it looks like it’s reaching out. Don’t be afraid to play around with placement until it looks just right.

Add sand to secure them (optional)

If your planter’s going outside or you live somewhere breezy, pour in a bit of sand at the base to weigh the planter down and anchor your stems to prevent wobbling.

If it’s staying indoors, feel free to skip this step and just focus on making your arrangement fit your space.

And just like that, you’ve made your own hanging statement piece. Refer to Connie’s video guide to visualize the process before you do it.

How to Make Artificial Green Walls a Statement Piece

Last but not least, let’s talk about how you can make arguably the easiest statement piece with artificial greenery - hanging a faux vertical garden.

If you decide to go down this route, you won’t have to purchase any additional tools or products - just your favorite artificial green wall.

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

Choose an impactful placement

Location matters. Pick an existing wall or fence that could use a little life and drama. For the best effect, we recommend looking at entryways, living room feature walls, balcony fences, pool areas, or even your home office.

In any case, make sure your placement’s visible. To truly create a statement piece, your decor needs to pop, capture, and hold attention.

Pick your artificial green wall

After choosing the space, select the artificial vertical garden panel you like most from our collection. Measure the area (length x width) to calculate how many panels you’ll need to cover it.

Don’t worry about complicated math - just make sure you have enough to fully cover the wall. If you’re not sure, double-check your measurements with our built-in panel calculator on each product page. All panels come in standard sizes of 40” x 40” and are easy to interconnect.

Cut or customize your vertical garden panel

If you notice your wall isn’t perfectly sized for the panels, or you’ve suddenly thought of a way to create a custom shape or pattern, there’s a solution.

Thanks to the panels’ ease of use, you can easily cut your panels to size using garden shears and by following the back grid, like Will does here:

Besides this, you can also add artificial stems, lights, or other accessories to your artificial green wall to make it your own, but we suggest leaving this until the end.

Install your faux green wall panel

Finally, you can install your statement panels. The method depends on your surface, so follow the installation process that addresses your surface material.

Whatever you install on, add a fixing roughly every 10-15 inches to keep the panels secure (less if it’s a wind-free indoor spot). Line up the other panels and connect them using the holes and lugs on each panel.

Once everything’s up, give your fake vertical garden a quick fluff by gently pulling and spreading it out.

Finishing Thoughts

And there you have it - tips to turn 3 different types of artificial greenery into statement pieces.
