Artificial plants for events aren’t a new concept.
In fact, they’ve been around for quite some time. We’re sure you know that most artificial plant displays you see at events are artificial.
And if you didn’t - now you do!
Using artificial plants to decorate a venue is a cost-effective, practical, and sensible decision for various reasons, which we’ll get into below.
We’ll also talk about how you can use a fake plant hire to create a display at a trade event, just like our most recent client did.
Let’s start.
3 Reasons to Buy Artificial Plants for an Event
Artificial plants, hedges, and faux green walls are fantastic options for a wide range of events, from weddings to red carpets.
We’ve been seeing our artificial foliage at events ever since we started our business. The reason for this is that it's a hassle-free way for clients to achieve their desired aesthetic without thinking about additional maintenance.
Plus, there are a few other benefits of using fake plants, including:
1. You can reuse them
When you get artificial plants, you’re not stuck with a decor option you won’t be able to maintain. Instead of purchasing real plants only to serve a single occasion, getting faux ones ensures you can wipe your hands off any additional responsibility.
Plus, you don’t have to worry about throwing away the beautiful plants you’ve bought because you don’t have the time to dedicate to upkeep. Instead, you can enjoy them for the event and then reuse them in your home or give them to someone as a gift.
2. They’re low-maintenance
If you have first-hand experience with artificial plants, you’ll know their main advantage is their low (or no) maintenance.
This aspect makes them a great choice for busy event settings where attention to detail is crucial, but time is limited. Unless you’re doing an exhibition of artificial plants, your decor won’t be at the center of the event, so you wouldn’t want it to overshadow the real star.
Since faux plants don’t need watering, don’t attract bugs, and are hypoallergenic, they’re safe for allergy-prone guests and won’t cause an issue. You’ll install them, admire them, and go on with your event without a second thought.
And if you’re not satisfied with the initial appearance, you can experiment with different looks by repositioning the greenery and combining it differently.
3. They’re easy to set up
Installing artificial plants is a breeze, especially fake hedges and faux green walls. Even if you’re handling the installation solo, you won’t be gasping for air and yelling for help.
At Designer Plants, we ensure our products are DIY-friendly, don’t require expert skills, and don’t take days to set up. We’ve even got a full guide on how you can install artificial green walls on any surface and how to hang up artificial hanging plants without drilling, all by yourself!
As a result, these plants can cover less attractive venue areas without requiring complex maneuvers or special care - just what you need from your venue decor.
How Clients Have Used Artificial Hanging Plants for Events
Recently, we had the pleasure of decorating an event booth in Melbourne, Australia with a range of artificial hanging plants.
The client chose fauxliege specifically for this event and had it professionally installed.
Here are some more details on the process and this specific client project:
The project
We worked with a commercial client who took part in a trade event in Melbourne. The client wanted to use artificial greenery to decorate the booth at the venue and contrast the dark, structured elements in the space.
After some back-and-forth, our team, together with the client, decided to combine a few different artificial hanging plants to create a full, lush display atop the booth.
We sent over a combination of:
- Artificial Zebra Plant Bush
- Artificial Pothos
- Artificial Nearly Natural Hanging Ivy Bush
- Artificial Two Tone Ivy Hanging Bush
The builders mounted the artificial plants along the top of the booth in dense, layered clusters that cascade slightly over the edge and give the appearance of natural overgrowth. The leaves draping down crafted a green ceiling, an unexpected sight in venues like these.
In some areas of the booth, the client integrated bulb lights among the fauxliege that highlighted the plants even more and drew attention to the upper section of the frame.
The result
The faux hanging plants extended across multiple sections of the booth frame and created continuity across the structure. The overhead lighting fixtures illuminated the plants from all angles and further enhanced their realistic appearance.
Thanks to the high ceilings, the hanging plants had ample space to add color and texture. The client was happy with the results and we were satisfied to see how a natural aesthetic can still fit in a modern, industrial venue.
