This client was thinking about decorating their rooftop, which had great potential from the get-go, but it was dominated by large air conditioning and water units. As a result, the space quickly became more utilitarian than anything else.

According to the client, the space was supposed to be an escape and a place to enjoy the fresh air and city views. Instead, the mechanical equipment made it feel industrial and uninviting.

When the client briefed our team, they highlighted their need to conceal the units without creating extra maintenance for them or others. They’d first thought ofusing real plants and greenery, but soon realized this wasn’t an option.

Practical Tips

The builders affixed the panels using a combination of pipe ties and screws to ensure the vertical garden would stay in place through winds and storms, especially in the winter. The modular design allowed us to run the panels seamlessly around the utilities and fully conceal them from view.
