Before Our Collaboration

d’Arenberg Cube is not just a venue, it’s an experience. Nestled amidst the sprawling vineyards of McLaren Vale in South Australia, this iconic architectural structure houses the d’Arenberg Winery, a renowned and historic winemaking estate.

Created and inspired by Chester Osborn, a fourth-generation winemaker, The Cube is a multi-story building that offers visitors an immersive experience and serves as a hub for wine-related activities, including tastings and virtual fermenters.

Within its walls, contemporary art installations, exhibits, and a spectacular restaurant mirror the avant-garde nature of the Cube itself.

The Problem

The d’Arenberg Cube team is always looking for ways to let their creative flair shine. Harboring an innovative approach to design, the team had their work cut out for them and encountered numerous challenges, including:

  • Aesthetics: The design had to align with the overall artistic theme of the Cube and not seem like an afterthought.
  • Space limitations: The washroom spaces are fairly small and require creative thinking to be more visually appealing but still functional.
  • Flow: The washroom has to follow the same imaginative design principles found in the other rooms.

Many teams would treat utilitarian spaces with no more than a passable paint job. But d’Arenberg Cube’s staff is unlike the rest. Where many saw monotony, they saw potential. They wanted to create a washroom that would blend in with the surrounding decor while still fulfilling its primary role.

After tossing a few ideas around, the team settled on artificial green walls.

During The Process

After looking at photos of the area they wanted redone, we recommended our Luxury Garden of Eden Luxe panels because they’re bespoke and include multiple flowering stems in white and yellow hues. So, no two panels are exactly alike and that’s just what the team at the d’Arenberg Cube needed.

Since some of the faux green wall panels would face the windows and likely catch a lot of sunlight during the day, the built-in UV resistance will equip them with the necessary protection for years to come.

The Solution

Our Designer Plants team loved working on this project because the Cube employees had a clear vision and innovative ideas. Staying true to their resourcefulness, they went the DIY route.

The team installed the faux green walls on scalloped walls as far as the eye could see to accentuate the curves around the space. Upon attaching the panels, they remarked how playful the area looked, which was in line with what they wanted to evoke.

The fauxliege brought out the artwork featured on the walls and complemented the various sculptures and intricate plumbing fixtures. Their existing artwork and installations were still the main act, as the team didn’t want the faux green walls to compete for guests’ attention.

After It’s Done

Following the installation of the Luxury Garden of Eden Luxe Artificial Green Walls, the d’Arenberg Cube staff exceeded their expectations and transformed a regular utilitarian space into a real design marvel.

What stood out most was how our panels seamlessly coexisted with the existing artwork, like the tree mural in the washroom. How fitting!

The lush greenery and graceful stems contributed to the visual appeal without crowding the space, allowing guests to remain focused. This installation is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional applications of our artificial vertical garden panels, and we take immense pride in having our products integrated in such an artistic manner.

Next Steps

The d’Arenberg Cube witnessed the transformative power of artificial greenery first-hand.

After it was all done, we talked to the employees and the managers. During our talks, we confirmed that the initial objectives set for the transformation have been resoundingly met. Incorporating artificial vertical garden panels fostered an atmosphere of creativity and extended the impact of the artistry found in the other rooms.

The Cube’s washrooms have been elevated from a necessity to a conversation-worthy feature.

At Designer Plants, we’re grateful to have been the d’Arenberg Cube’s choice. This project has been a testament to the seamless blend of creativity and execution, from conceptualization to realization.
