How a Client Created a Mediterranean Poolside With Faux Outdoor Plants

Before: The poolside area was clean and functional but looked unfinished. Despite its strong bones, the wall blended into the background rather than standing out, and failed to capture the inviting, sun-drenched Mediterranean atmosphere the client wanted.

After: The outdoor area is now a year-round escape that radiates warmth and color — a Mediterranean showpiece that looks and feels like a luxury resort, with zero maintenance demands beyond an occasional wipe-down.

The Client Challenge

The client envisioned this area becoming the heart of her backyard and evoking unrivaled Mediterranean charm, with rich greenery and splashes of her favorite color, purple.

When she came to us, she shared her idea for a space that felt like a luxury villa courtyard, where she could relax by the pool surrounded by beauty.

What she needed was a long-lasting, maintenance-free solution that could thrive in full sun and still deliver the Mediterranean flair she wanted.

The Design Objective

The goal was to capture the essence of the Mediterranean coast, a feat many homeowners chase in states with a never-ending summer climate, like Florida or California.

The main challenges for this project were:

To cover the plain poolside wall that lacked visual interest and warmth
To manage the difficult conditions for the potential poolside decor
To accent the poolside with purple blooms for a personal touch
To choose a low-maintenance decor option that looked beautiful all year round

The Solution

After a quick chat with our team and a look at the current space, our stylists recommended installing our Lush Fern Artificial Green Wall on the wall facing the pool, and accenting the greenery with realistic fake plants hanging from the panel, specifically our Purple Hanging Artificial Bougainvillea.

Since our team suggests products that align with the client’s goals, we recommended a layered approach using realistic fake plants that would mimic the lushness of a Mediterranean garden.

Installation Approach

The client opted for a professional installation, but since our artificial green wall panels are made with DIY in mind, you can choose to put it up yourself, following our comprehensive guide.

We used the fake fern plant wall as the foundation and used it to get a textured, organic backdrop.

To introduce our client’s favorite hue and create a focal point, we incorporated a UV-resistant fake hanging plant with lifelike purple blooms. The installation team trimmed and wove the stems throughout the fern panels and created natural bursts of color.

We selected every product for outdoor durability and ensured it’s UV-resistant, weatherproof, and perfect. Our team wanted the client to have the best fake plants for pool environments so that she can enjoy them for at least 5 years, thanks to their warranties.

The Result

The once plain wall had now turned into a Mediterranean showpiece and radiated warmth and color. The combination of textured greenery and dynamic purple blooms complements the crystal pool and turns the outdoor area into a year-round escape.

Why Artificial Greenery Worked So Well

While aesthetics are a prominent advantage of faux outdoor plants, their main benefit is the low-maintenance nature. Now, even though the client has a full green wall, she won’t spend hours trimming, pruning, or raking dead leaves.

Instead, all she’ll need to do is get a microfiber cloth to wipe down the leaves to remove debris, and use a showerhead or a sponge to let the greenery shine.

Practical Tips

- Trim and weave hanging plant stems throughout fern panels to create natural bursts of color rather than clustering them in one spot.
